I was sitting in church on Sunday, listening to a sermon by one of the ministers of my church. He read from the book of Nehemiah: 1-11. This chapter speaks about the compassion of Nehemiah to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. It reads,

1-11. I went to the walls of Jerusalem, and after staying there three days, I sat during the night with a few others. I had not told anyone what God had put in my heart to do for Jerusalem. I was listening and having my own thoughts of how when God calls us to do a work, he also gives us a compassion for it.

Nehemiah had gone to the wall many times prior to him asking the king’s permission to rebuild it. If God calls you to a work, he will also make provision for it. If you will read over in Chapter 2 The king not only gave his permission, but he also provided the materials needed to complete the assignment.

Some of you may be waiting on your Pastor to ask you to work in a particular area of ministry. In some cases that is necessary, especially when it comes to filling church offices, but I can assure you that your Pastor would appreciate nothing more than seeing you jump in with a bit of gusto and get busy. Nevertheless, if God has put it in your heart to mentor youth, you don’t need the permission of anyone to do that. Sign up with an organization that needs help, like BIG Bother or Big Sister. These organizations are always seeking help, as well as shelter’s and food banks. When God calls he is showing us our purpose and expects us to find ways of building that will connect others to him.

There are also many ministries in our churches that needs rebuilding…….No! Not the Choir. It’s always operating on full. I was thinking more like, The Children’s Ministry, Bible Study, Praise and Worship Ministry, Street Ministry, Single Parent’s Ministry, Women’s Ministry, Youth Ministry, Men’s Ministry, Prayer Ministry, Couples Ministry, Singles Ministry, Drama & Arts Ministry, Music Ministry, Videography, Community Outreach, and so on. There is much to be done. There are many opportunities for God to use you. If God put it in your heart….DO IT! Be a part of building something Great in his KINGDOM.
