WHEN GOD CHOOSES

1st Samuel Chapter  16 tells us of how Saul had been rejected as King over Israel, and how that God had chosen another to reign in his stead. He (GOD) had told Samuel to take a horn of oil and to go to the house of Jesse of Bethlehem for it was there that he should find King Saul’s replacement.
So Samuel prepared himself and went as the Lord ordered to the house of Jesse. When he got there he was met by the elders of the town, who asked him if he came in peace. Samuel replied, “Yes” and ask that they come a side to sacrifice with him. Then he set a side the house of Jesse and invited them to the sacrifice as well.
When the family of Jesse arrived, Samuel saw Eliab,  Jesses eldest son and thought to himself, surely this is the Lords anointed, but the Lord had rejected him, and told Samuel not to look upon his countenance for man looks at the outer appearance, but God looks upon the heart.(1.Samuel16-7).
So Jesse made seven of his sons to pass before Samuel that day, but the son that was chosen he never even considered, God had to ask for him. Who are we desiring? Is the preference ours, or does it belong to God?
I love each of my children, and I’ll go as far as to say that I love each of them the same. However, I love them each the same for different reasons. Although I love them each for different reasons, I can say that I love them the same because when I think of them individually they bring me the same joy! 🙂
There have been times when I thought that Taira,(my daughter) would be more knowledgeable on a particular subject, but given the task, she had to get help from her brother Anthony,(my son). If there would have been a reward for guessing I would have lost.
And so it is with men,  We think with our common intellect we know the very heart and mind of God, but many times we will choose our own feeling when making important decisions. If Samuel had not been prayerful, he would not have been able to hear the voice of God, and possibly would have made Eliab King, setting the course for Israel to go down a completely different path than what God had planned.
This is why it is so important to seek God regarding everything. Our personal relationships/ friendships are powerful, especially in relation to family. In this regard we need to know if God is truly desirous of the decisions we are making when it comes to his house, Our lives, the lives of our children. It could actually be the beginning of something Great, or something Dark. Listen…Pay Attention….
